My Role
I was responsible for conducting the whole strategy part of this project. The main responsibilities were:
- Develop the research plan;
- Collect and analyze the desk research materials;
- Conduct the field research, semi-structured interview with the ophthalmologist and one-on-one household interviews with target user families;
- Create the experience journey map;
- Analysis insights and opportunities regarding the preferred style and performances of the storage package.

Project Overview
Euclid orthokeratology lens is a rigid permeable contact lens with unique inverse geometry design. The teenagers between the ages of 8- 18 usually use that to change the existing geometry of cornea for vision correction. Compared to the general myopic lens and contact lens, to prescribe and wear the orthokeratology lens is more thorough and complicated. It also needs more kits, such as four different caring solutions, casing, suction wand, and so on.

This project aims to design a low-cost storage packaging of the orthokeratology lens and those attached kits, which is appealing to display and deliver to the teenagers and their parents in hospital, ritual and convenient to use and store at home.
Process & Approach
In this project, we started the research from desk research of various storage packaging design concepts. And we categorized them to different mood boards to guide us to collect the users' functional and aesthetic preferences.

With the field research in two eye hospitals,  we got to know how consumers usually fill the prescription of the orthokeratology lens, how the lens and kits are displayed, and what's the current packaging.

While during the household user interview, we observe the whole process and environment of wearing and store the orthokeratology lens and other kits. And we orchestrated them into a journey map to analyze the user scenarios and corresponding issues and preferences.

Combine all the insights from the above research process, we summarized the design definition and directions of the storage packaging.

Field Research to an Ophthalmological Hospital and Household User Interview.
The whole using process, from purchase to prepare, use, clean, and storage, involves both parents and teenagers. Due to the potential worries and dependency of those younger teenagers (under ten years old), they usually need their parents to prepare all kits and assist them in wearing and cleaning the orthokeratology lens. Besides the different provided kits, the parents have to prepare tissues, proper mirror, and another small container to hold the liquid waste for the next suction step during the preparation, and some of them will mark the functions and using frequency and specific time on the solutions' bottles in case of mix up.

We also found the using scenarios are unfixed. Sometimes they may help the teenagers to wear that in the living room, while sometimes in the bedroom. When they change a room, they'll spend much time adjusting the mirror to a proper normative angle.

Based on the above insights and their preferences for the storage packaging mood-boards, we summarized the design opportunities as follow:
- Proper compartments to store and take out the kits ;
- Easy to distinguish various caring solutions;
- Include space to store pouring and waste liquid;
- Include a normative mirror;
- Portable;
- Inclusive to both parents and teenagers
- Sense of clean, professional, and secure.

The Results
We proposed the design strategy report and one subsequent product design solution. With this packaging design proposal, it contains the lens and all the using kits, even included a proper normative mirror to save the preparation time. Its translucent frosted cover could be performed as a container for waste liquid, inside of the storage box, it also has a small customized compartment for the clinical registration card and specification.
Another attachment included in this package is the stickers to help parents to distinguish different caring solutions.
