Social projects are those I participated in during the master's degree study of design innovation and service design in the Glasgow School of Art. These projects allow me to dive deeper into the human-centered research methodology and thinking mindset. Compare with the linear process executed in most of my commercial projects, the research processes of these projects are often circular and iterated, which stimulates me to bear in mind the linkage of our exploration and to consider the messages we've collected deeper.
Among these projects,' Home on Tap' aimed to explore a community pub's role, the typical local cultural icon, to create a sense of community belonging and enhance social well-being to help reverse a community pub's shutdown. 'GreenSpace' needed us to focus on the heart health of 'invisible' people. With various briefs, it provided me attractive opportunities to be in Glasgow's real society in an innovative and warm view through trying to get access to and talking with experts, charities, associations, and lovely ordinary people. Meanwhile, different project categories challenge me to dip into or absorb additional relevant knowledge, such as organizational design and sound culture. Moreover, such a research process made me understand to design a service, flexible holistic and systematic thinking is critical. For example, we could collage and reveal the target user's veil indirectly when it's tough to access some particular target groups (e.g., GreenSpace), our target user and end-user are subjects in a dialectical relationship. That's the appealing part of innovative thinking and design.
